Posters for United Nations Online Volunteers and AHURTOD

These are a series of images that I made for the Association Human Rights and Torture Defenders (AHURTOD)for the promotion of human rights and democracy in Africa. AHURTOD wanted their logo to incorporate Africa as a central component to the poster design. I had little research regarding the project but I wanted the message to be clear and universal. I first tinkered on the idea of incorporating quotes from famous African leaders regarding democracy and human rights in Africa (Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Former President Nelson Mandela quickly comes into mind) but I hadn't gathered enough so I just went on with creating the poster. I also wanted to translate the words EQUALITY, PEACE and JUSTICE of every language in Africa. Sadly, I realized that there were just too many languages in the African continent. Though that would be a great idea for a next poster.

Rotoscoping

These photos were taken from my personal files and were done using Adobe Illustrator and a bit of Photoshop. The kids on both of these pictures were rotoscoped (using a mouse! A mouse mind you!) including the umbrella but it was done through Ai's Live Trace. It took me about 4 hours on the first picture (
Prusisyon) and about 5 hours on the next (Playing With Light).

I was blown away by rotoscoping ever since I saw Philip K Dick's
A Scanner Darkly and wanted to apply it to a couple of images that I have. The result is these two pictures which I hope would soon be followed. The idea here is to have the rotoscoped images stand out without being too unrealistic and still maintain a "natural" feel despite being vector images. I hope you'd enjoy looking at it as much as I had fun doing it.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

These lines from Dylan Thomas' infamous poem, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night, is probably one of my personal favorites along with Elizabeth Bishop's, One Art. That's the reason why I made this simple wallpaper for my desktop. Neat eh?

Memories of Dupinga

dupinga

Dupinga is a small town (I guess) In Laur, Nueva Ecija. I really have to say that it is not ine of your typical tourist destinations. A lot of winding and unpaved roads has to be taken to get there and finding a parking spot isn't like a pee-anywhere-you-like because you're in the wild. The river 's water was very cold, clear and refreshing though the last time my cousins went there they told me that the place was already a mess.

Still what I wouldn't give to be back there with the WHOLE family again.

Art In Site Magazine Covers Project

Here's good news. The Art In Site magazine, an upcoming art magazine made by artists for artists, is giving you the cover of their first issue as their canvas. Check out their site and the details. Deadline for submission would be on September 15. Watcha!

Pilipinas Pattern

This pattern was one of early attempts to follow the several tutorials on how to do something considered at least creative in Illustrator. Pink wasn't my favorite but this color scheme somehow just managed to grab my attention. (Or was I just thinking of strawberry and chocolate ice cream?)

This was taken during my last Baguio adventure late last summer. The moment was just too perfect for me to let it pass.

This was also taken on the same day after I took a stroll inside the UP Baguio campus.

The Devirginizing Post

He-ya!

I ought to give myself a treat today because I finally had the guts again to start a blog. But then again i have to play it safe this time. I know now that I'll never know who's watching me this time.

Ciao! (for now of course)
